ONE DAY: Scenes from Sarah House

On Saturday May 3, 2008 there was a beautiful reading of ONE DAY: Scenes from Sarah House, a play by Doris Baizley of Los Angeles. The reading was held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, in the Fireside Room at 7 pm. The event turned out to be a great success and the turn out was higher than we had expected. Between 75 to 100 people attended and loved the reading. We will be working on having a full play production take place early next year. Stay tuned for more information! You won't want to miss this. ONE DAY: Scenes from Sarah House is a work in progress written by Doris Baizley. Click here to read an interview with the playwright. ONE DAY is  theatre piece for five actors based on interviews and stories from Sarah House, a hospice in Santa Barbara dedicated to "healing the dying" from a social, humanistic, rather than medical perspective. The play moves between the reality and dreams of residents and staff at Sarah House to the ancient Greek myths and practices that are inspiring some of the newest ideas in palliative care today. playwright Doris Baizley lives in Los Angeles where she is a founding member of LA Theater Works and was residents playwright for the Mark Taper Forum's ITP Company for young audiences and dramaturg for the Taper's Other Voices Program for theatre artists with disabilities.


Awakening Kindness

Randy Sunday, Executive Director of Sarah House and Debbie McQuade, House Mana­ger of Sarah House will be teaching a class in awakening kindness training for end-of-life care this coming April 2008. This class is free to the public and is an Adult Education class through the S­anta Barbara Community College. You can view our schedule here. The class will­ commence Wednesday April 16th and continue every Wednesday until May 14th, from 5:15 pm to 7:15 pm. Awakening Kindness will take place at the Rehabilitation Institute, found at 2415 De La Vina in Santa Barbara. Click here for a map to the Rehabilitation Institute. The Sacred Space is honored to represent Kim Waters and her transcendent artwork. She is the lead singer & voice of RASA the renowned spiritual musical group. Her music is usually playing over our system.
